High-speed labeling machines automatically dispense and apply pre-printed pressure-sensitive labels to products as they travel along a conveyor line. Unlike print-and-apply systems that print labels in real time, high-speed labelers work with pre-printed label rolls and focus on maximum application speed and placement accuracy for high-throughput production environments.

Application Methods

Wipe-on applicators peel labels from the liner and press them directly onto the product surface as it passes, using the product's forward motion to complete the application. This method achieves the highest speeds because there are no moving applicator components contacting the product. Air blow applicators use a jet of compressed air to propel the label from the peel point onto the product surface without physical contact. Tamp applicators use a vacuum pad to hold the label and press it onto the product surface with controlled force. Vacuum belt applicators carry labels on a moving vacuum belt and transfer them to the product at matching speed.

Labeling Configurations

Single-head systems apply labels to one surface (top, bottom, front, back, or side). Dual-head configurations apply labels to two surfaces simultaneously, such as front and back or top and bottom. Wrap-around labeling applies a single label around the circumference of a cylindrical container. Multi-panel labeling applies labels to three or more surfaces using coordinated applicator heads.

Accuracy and Detection

Label gap sensors detect the spacing between labels on the roll to time each application precisely. Registration mark sensors align labels with specific positions on the product. Clear label sensors use ultrasonic detection to handle transparent label materials that optical sensors cannot see. Product sensors trigger the application cycle as each product reaches the labeling position.
