Print and Apply Labelers

Print and Apply Labelers

Print and apply labelers print variable data labels in real time and automatically apply them to products, cases, pallets, and trays as they move along the packaging line. These systems combine thermal transfer or direct thermal print engines with interchangeable application modules including tamp, swing arm, corner wrap, and high-speed vacuum applicators at speeds up to 200 ft/min.

Print and apply labeling systems combine an integrated print engine with an automatic label application module in a single unit. The print engine prints variable data (barcodes, lot codes, date codes, addresses, or graphics) onto blank label stock, and the application module immediately places the printed label onto the passing product, case, tray, or pallet. This eliminates pre-printed label inventory and allows real-time data printing synchronized to the production line.

Print Engines

Thermal transfer print engines use a heated printhead to transfer ink from a ribbon onto the label, producing durable, high-quality prints resistant to moisture, chemicals, and abrasion. Direct thermal print engines print by activating heat-sensitive label stock without ribbon, which is suitable for short-life labels. Print widths of 4" and 6" accommodate standard shipping labels, product identification labels, and compliance labels. Quick-change print engine modules allow fast changeover between different print widths or engine types.

Application Modules

Interchangeable application modules adapt the system to different labeling requirements without replacing the entire unit. Tamp applicators extend a vacuum pad to press labels onto the product surface. Swing arm applicators rotate to apply labels on adjacent surfaces. Corner wrap modules apply labels around two adjacent sides of a case. High-speed vacuum applicators use vacuum belts to apply labels at line speeds up to 200 ft/min without slowing the conveyor. Dual panel tamp modules apply labels to two surfaces in a single cycle.

Mounting and Integration

Modular frame designs mount in any orientation (top, bottom, or side application) and integrate with existing conveyor lines. Touchscreen HMI interfaces provide recipe management, diagnostic feedback, and print job configuration. Communication protocols connect to warehouse management systems, ERP systems, and packaging line controllers for automated label data.
